Commissioning Artwork

The Collaboration Process

The collaboration process for the commissioned piece works best if communication is open throughout. Though there will be an initial vision for the piece, you or I may have ideas that would make the piece even better as the creation process unfolds and, of course, a few check-in points along the way help ensure we are headed in the right direction.

Here is how the process works from beginning to end:

  1. Initial discussion. We meet or talk about your vision for the art work and the timeline for completion. If there is a copyright on a photo reference, we will want to get permission to use the image or it can be used as a starting point for us to alter and make it our own. For more design considerations, see the blog post concerning this - here.

  2. Intial design sketch created. I will provide an intial rendering to ensure you like the direction. If specific colors need to be included to complement your space, we’ll make sure those are on point!

  3. Start of project and half of payment due at the start of the creation process.

  4. Assess progress. Throughout the creation process, I will send a few updates to make sure we are on track and you are happy with the general direction.

  5. Final presentation and rest of payment due.

Testimonials

  • Jazz Scene with MIles Davis

"It was such a fun experience to design an art piece together. All three of us - my husband, Marly, and myself - had our own mark on the piece, but Marly pulled it all together so wonderfully. She would text us progress pictures. She entrenched herself into the piece. We love it! Thanks again, Marly!" — Barbara

  • Bear

“You have no idea how special this painting is to me, Marly. You did such an amazing job on Bear’s eyes, I can’t but help feel like he’s still staring at me with his unconditional love from the canvas. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will forever miss my boy, but you made missing him a little easier.” - Henry
